SUSANNA BLUHM – March Snow of New York

Artist Talk: Saturday, September 24th at 1pm

Opening Reception: Thursday, September 1, 6 – 8 pm

This fall G. Gibson Gallery presents new paintings by Susanna Bluhm and new drawings by Samantha Scherer. This is our second solo exhibit for each artist.

Susanna Bluhm’s paintings are based on the photographs that she took in New York in March of 2015, shortly after receiving the 2014 Neddy award. Her visit in New York coincided with a spring snow fall.  As New Yorkers had already experienced a heavy winter Susanna describes the inspiration for this body of work: “Snow, and weather, can be a story about sensory experience, cultural expectations, nostalgia, and disappointment.”.  Her abstracted landscapes and still lives contain symbols, patterns and words that repeat throughout this body of work, as in previous works.
Signed catalogs are available

In Samantha Scherer’s Aerial, the artist examines the power of natural forces on human-made structures from a birds-eye view.  Continuing to work on an intimate scale, this exhibit will include a series of small, detailed graphite drawings made from collected media photographs in the wake of natural disasters.
