Thuy-Van Vu was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and has lived mostly in Seattle since 2000. Her parents were Vietnamese refugees who arrived in the United States in 1975. Vu received her B.F.A. in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and her M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Texas in Austin. Vu is the recipient of several awards and grants, including Grant for Artist Projects (GAP) grant from Artist Trust (2007), a fellowship grant from The New Foundation Seattle (2014), and a recipient of the Fell From The Sky gift (2015, 2016, 2017).

Vu has exhibited in cities across the U.S. and her work is included in the collections of the City of Seattle, King County 4Culture, and Tacoma Art Museum. Her work is also currently on view in Working Hard to Be Useless at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art through December 29, 2018. This is her 5th solo exhibit with G. Gibson Gallery (Seattle), who has represented Vu since 2009. Thuy-Van Vu is a working artist and mother of a young child, based in Seattle, WA.
